Ebbs and Flows

Róisín Doolan

The past year has been full of moments of both darkness and light, hope and despair. There has been a need to adapt in a world that, for many, feels as though it has been turned upside down. Intrigued by the sense that there has been a blanket feeling of heightened emotions – loss, confusion, fear, frustration, loneliness – associated with both our individual and shared experiences of the pandemic, my work explores the tumultuous times we are living through.

There have been moments of light amongst the darkness and glimpses of clarity amidst the confusion, I use contrasting tones and the effect of light and shadow to reflect this. My work intends to express the disquiet and unease that many have felt while adapting to the ‘new normal’. This body of work focuses on mono-printing while also experimenting with video, projection and sound.
