'Woven Memories' is a collection of ready to wear womenswear. The collection is inspired by canoeing equipment and protective garments worn when taking part in The Liffey Descent, a 32 kilometre canoeing race on the River Liffey in Dublin. The flow of the water, its shape and pattern inspired aspects of the collection.
The garments tell my story of that day. Details of strapping, quilting, ruching, hand crochet and machine knit all tie in, drawing on the memories I hold. The number 325 was my race number; it was my identity on the river. The completed garments in this collection are a metaphor for the completion of two childhood dreams; the completion of the Liffey Descent and study of fashion design.
