A connection of the senses

Lara Sutter

How does sound or taste affect our view of things? What does it look like to draw a chair by touch? This quest involves music, sounds and touch mainly, and flavour and blind drawing secondarily. I have experimented with different ways to perceive objects, exploring with other senses, and translating the experiences into images. It brings into light aspects that are not easily seen but can be felt.
The mix of different mediums – pencil, acrylic, inks and markers – communicates the contrast between what is seen and what is perceived with touch or sound, and the use of bright colour also suggests those contrasts. In these pieces, the background also plays an important role: colours, watercolours or collage, everything is intentionally used to create layers and an effect of depth and dimension and dynamism.
