My practice is concerned with thinking through queer feminist theory to deconstruct paradigms and relationships of objects, bodies, systems and spaces. In this series ‘Soft and Deviant’, a queer space is proposed through images that interpret understanding and identity as elements in constant flux.
In the project, I use hyper-saturated colour and a sensitivity to materiality and composition to create visually stimulating images that confront intersectional and inequitable structures. In these images I stage a space where perspective is tested through the photographic lens and narrative is performed through a queer understanding of what is present and what is missing.
To think in a material way, forces us to disrupt how we see, and how we associate. With the use of ironic and playful discourse these images interact as a proposition to question the everyday stature of objects and their use.
