‘Rósdaite’ is a womenswear collection that showcases soft details, delicate handmade techniques and traditional fabrication methods, combined with functional outerwear.
Photo albums found in my grandparent’s house were the starting points for this research. Reminiscences of days spent watching my Nana knotting macramé lampshades, and my Granddad tending to his adored rose garden, were translated into the handmade roses and crocheted over pieces.
I emulated a romantic feel throughout the collection by choosing elegant fabrics like silk and tulle, which are juxtaposed with the coated outerwear, wooden beads and paper yarns, adding an organic and earthy contrast to the soft and delicate elements.
Each of the many components has been carefully selected to relate to a part of my research, and each ties into the humble narrative of my grandparent’s lives together.
