In my practice I design and make avant-garde costumes inspired by stories and fantasies. My inspiration comes from dance and performance, in particular ballet, which is known for its beautiful fairytale stories. Ballet is known for creating a captivating atmosphere through elegant and sophisticated body movements.
Through my designs and fabric manipulation, I try to convey this grace and beauty by creating wearable, avant-garde garments.
My practice looks at the use of less valuable materials and sustainable fabrics, which I repurpose into unexpected avant-garde wearables. The techniques I employ include the use of fabric manipulation through ruffles and gatherings, ranging from large to small.
I like my work to be used in performances to really connect my garment to the story, emotions and characteristics that are being portrayed, so that the audience can escape into a fairy tale world where such beauty exists.
