Visual artist, designer, and educator, Timothy Gerard navigates a narrative intrinsic to his design process through specific moments in time. He explores classical drawing, painting, photomontage, textiles and photography.
In 'AH SURE HE’ll BE GRAND', 2020, a visual commentary on the system of male mental health is provided. 317 transparent envelopes represents the 317 male lives lost by suicide in 2019. Exploring the protection of information through the materiality of an envelope and their sorting into a filing system, two of the drawers are extracted from the archival structure and suspended from the ceiling to reflect the weightlessness of the issue.
'YOU'RE LOST AT SEA', 2019, is a collection that demonstrates an individual aesthetic with an affinity to one's sense of place and the relevance of the ocean to one's identity. Sensitively drawn studies juxtaposed beside textual references and romanesque sculptures represent the ideal human form. The work speaks of love, nostalgia, memory and journey.
