A Mountain Hike in Verbier, Switzerland

Stephanie Walsh

She/her

‘A Mountain Hike in Verbier, Switzerland’ is a collection of handwoven and handknit constructed textiles designed for a contemporary unisex fashion context. Having lived in Verbier for many years, I am deeply connected to the village; it is part of my identity.

The collection’s concept is a hike in the remote Alpine village of Verbier. Starting in the old village and meandering up to the snowy peaks, inspiration is taken from the textures, colours and motifs encountered along the way. The rugged mountain landscape and native flora and fauna observed are conveyed through careful colour and yarn choices. The forms and motifs used are influenced by traditional Fairisle and Nordic stitches, playing with their scale and creating new motifs. The collection is produced with secondhand natural luxury yarns, 100% undyed organic cotton, and Aran wools; sustainability and longevity are a given. The fabrics are tactile and inviting, providing pure escapism.
