Touch

Santina Farinella

The natural environment provides immense inspiration, in particular; motion within nature, the process of erosion, the points of physical contact between the sea, the life within it and its shoreline, both manmade and natural. I am a mixed media artist, primarily a painter, recently expanding to more 3D and installation work.
My drawing work is a response to a sculpture in development. As I suspended and shaped seaweed, I created surfaces for my drawing with different media, exploring the floating forms that seaweed takes combined with the ambiguity of the depth of the water itself. The intention of the work is to evoke a sense of disorientation, where gravity disappears and where what we see can be reduced to emerging forms as they come into contact with the sunlight.
