In my self-driven project, I have explored the shipping and fishing industries in my home town of Arklow. Fishing here is a commercial industry and the port is still home to a number of fishing vessels. Container vessels are also harboured here, and the fleet has grown in number in recent years.
My illustrations explore different faces of the fishing and shipping industries in Arklow to make up for the lack of visual representations of the subject. They are not simply visual records, but use artistic license to intrigue viewers and draw attention to the subject. I feel my role as a designer is to cast light on under-explored issues like this and to solve creative problems.
