In general, my work toes the line between the contextual expression of distinct content and the physical expression of paint sitting on a surface. In particular, I am interested in moving the portrayal of rural content from the traditional domain to the contemporary. Painting on a small/medium scale means that I can create a concentrated intimacy with both the object(s) being represented and the paint itself. Representing the form of an object using the direction and shape of the brushstroke is important to me. It marries the character of the content to the nature of the paint.
