The artistic practice of Nicole Byrne heavily informs her pedagogical approach. Construction site materials trigger experimentation with structures, flat compositions and sculptural installations. Her work is suggestive of architectural elements in the midst of construction and deconstruction. These sites offer a primary source to collect images, barely transformed but having an endless capacity to grow.
Printmaking, which requires precision and careful construction, offers the ideal medium for expressing these ideas. It also possesses an inherent element of uncertainty and constant deconstruction as both the ink and the printing block deteriorate with use. The printmaking process means that the exact result can never be anticipated, the unknown is something that captivates and excites.
