Attention!

The events of 2020 have driven us further into the digital world as a matter of necessity. The currency of this world is not money, but attention. The "Attention Economy" is a capitalist system set upon leaching as much of our time and engagement as possible. This culture of constant distraction and passive consumption threatens our happiness and our health. Only we have the power to log off, but is that even what we want?

This project explores our ever-growing digital reliance through the lens of humour and satire. Using the language of advertising as a tool, it seeks to highlight the hollow workings of the Attention Economy and asks us to question how our time is stolen from us, and at what cost. Does the momentary pleasure we derive from it equate to real happiness? And as we approach normality once again, are we even prepared to depart the digital world and return to the physical?

CLICKBAIT is a visual representation of the Attention Economy. Mindless, frustrating, and strangely addictive, the website takes the viewer on a nonsensical journey to nowhere, demonstrating how we are all HOOKED on the internet
