Preoccupied with the themes of memory and loss, my current practice draws on Sigmund Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis where talk therapy is used to cure neurosis and a dependency is on the subject’s memory for the cure. My work reaffirms that forward movement in life is achieved through a backward movement in memory.
Comprising this body of work entitled 'Quest' is a short film capturing the essence of contemporary dance movement. It is a story about humanity, friendship and faith in a higher spirit, encapsulated through the somatic response of the body to emotion, memory and place. I dedicate this piece to the memory of the late Alexander Ogden DiMeo, the American Swami/Hindu Monk who, in my darkest hour, restored my faith in humanity. He just listened and let me speak. The extraordinary, the unique and the unforgettable Alexander whose memory will never be extinguished from my mind.
