Eyes Up Rise Up

Leah McCarthy

My work is driven by a desire to tackle social issues. It is exciting to know that I have the opportunity to make a positive social impact through my work.

31% of young adults across Ireland have experienced sexual harassment. Men and women between 18 and 25 are the most susceptible, largely due to the types of jobs they work in and their social lives.

'Eyes Up Rise Up' is a campaign that shines light on these issues and seeks to educate people in the hope of preventing these situations from occurring.

The main outcome of my project is an illustrated book, 'Words Have Weight', a collection of first-hand accounts of men and women’s experiences of sexual harassment. I have interpreted the stories through illustration to further emphasise the gravity of these experiences.

The book is accompanied by a series of stickers and an interactive website which allows others to get involved.
