My project focuses on retelling unique stories of Donegal that are in danger of being lost as oral traditions die out. Having been born and raised there, I have long been inspired by its marvellous history and fantastic tales from early childhood.
Having worked as a tour guide in my youth, I’ve seen how stories are slowly being lost, yet are so important to Donegal history and culture. I am also driven by how important stories are to human beings, how fundamental they are to shaping identities and ideals.
Through various multimedia outcomes such as watercolour and acrylics, I have sought to breathe new life into these stories. Not only just in the way in which they are delivered but also how they can be engaged with, and thus remembered. My postcards are chapter titles, my stamps are scene setters, my book brings us through select stories, and finally, my tapestries are the finale.
