Can design influence how we experience moments of nostalgia? The word “nostos” is the first part of the Greek translation for nostalgia, meaning “to return home”.
My project is inspired by people and how we adapt to the present and the future. As we are currently living in a period which lacks comfort and certainty, we find ourselves in search of emotional consolation; this is something we find in moments of nostalgia. Nostalgia is a tool and it can be used to draw inspiration from the past.
As humans, we are capable of exhibiting and expressing the past through a paradigmatic modernist form. These new forms of expression reflect the past, where aspects of life were lived simply and more naturally than we do now. By reviving these memories we are enabling the feeling of happiness once found in the little things. The focus of this project is to celebrate these moments and use them to conquer the stress of modern day life and create a sense of soothing escapism.
