'Beyond Repair And Back Again' draws from research rooted in ideas exploring the body and the environment, specifically the performative interactions with the chosen site that is Doldrum Bay in Howth, County Dublin. After constant visitations, this location became utilised for exploration and connection with one's self and natural contextual awareness. Interest in Doldrum Bay was sparked when searching for a site of ecological interest to be investigated.
It is one of 35 Irish locations where raw sewage is discharged into the sea, despite environmental protection regulations. It was this conflicted treatment and representation of Doldrum Bay that justified it as a place worth investigating. The final body of work is almost a surface level gesture towards the research that has been completed as part of this project. The lens perspective and materiality of the installation bring together themes of private and public space, erosion of the landscape over time, the raw and polished duality through clay and tiles, chaos and repetition.
