Rururban (A mix of old rural processes realised in an urban space)
Ingredients:
A large portion of memories of great times from my childhood 1992 - 2004.
A smidgen of knowledge of traditional folk food processing.
A lot of materials, ingredients that evoke memories by their smell and shape.
A slight of hand allowing transition and adaptation from the rural to the urban.
A dash of awareness of environmental surroundings.
A dollop of interactivity and playfulness to actively pass on the knowledge of processes.
A sprinkle of Hiberno-English and Czech language to make a hybrid.
Method:
Combine translations of memories; of land, knowledge of plants, food processes and recipes from my rural past and insert them into the urban space where I live at present. The installation is an attempt to restore and adapt, to pass on the knowledge of plants and food processes to my children who will also share them with an expanded community ensuring they continue to become woven into urban spaces. This is my own autoethnography.
