From desire to bitter disappointment, this body of work is about the fullness of the female experience. The work provides a place in which to grieve, the act of painting being cathartic. It simultaneously sharpens my senses and calms me down. Through painting, I am able to make sense of what I see.
The motifs used in the paintings are drawn largely from my own life. The paintings and charcoal drawings are mainly self-portraits. Some charcoal is densely worked with angry strokes, and the paint is layered and dripping. In others, the application of charcoal is delicate and minimal; they almost dissolve into the paper and they are depictions of how I feel.
