'Becoming' is a collection based on the protective layer we surround our bodies with. While it is not visible to the eye, we subconsciously place it around us to protect us from judgement and our fears. In order to become who we want to become, we must break this layer. Through experience, we naturally break this layer. Despite this, I wanted to visualise this physical layer and the actual process of breaking it.
In my work, I think a lot about the wearer of the piece and how they get lost behind the worn piece. I therefore, connected the two elements in a performance, where the wearer can break the fragile nylon surface. The materials used in this work are very minimal and raw, and the use of nylon tights represents the protective layer. The use of the lapis lazuli stone is present as it is known to help bring out ones true self.
