Boglands

Emma Rock

She/her

The title ‘Boglands’ is inspired by my research of the Bord na Móna peat bogs, which are soon to be closed and restored back to their natural state. These bogs have a strong connection with my family and are located close to my home in Roscommon. Over the course of the lockdown, I walked the bog every week with my father and siblings, each telling stories of our own experiences with the bog and hearing about our family’s history. Reliving childhood memories of walking the tracks of the old peat trains and remembering the railway tours, creaking and crawling through the bog at Shannonbridge.
The outcome for my final collection is a set of contemporary jewellery pieces that showcase the landscape of the boglands by combining wild and natural elements with man-made materials, through the use of copper and felt.
