247 Conversations

Eimear Gilhooly

'247 Conversations' is inspired by communication and the small interactions people have with each other on a daily basis. It is an artwork that represents the brief, but often important conversations a person has with the likes of a barista.
Working in a bakery that served coffee during the various Covid-19 lockdowns, the different relationships formed with people she doesn't even know the names of were observed and explored. Everyone craves social interaction, going for “a walk and a coffee” could be the only source of conversation someone might have on any given day. The function of the coffee cup has changed from being a container, to a vessel that enables much needed conversation. The plaster coffee cups are a documentation of these encounters and conversations.
