I've always had an interest in the daily habits of people, particularly random people, whom I know nothing about. I observe how they might move or hold their hands and feet and wonder what might have caused these actions. Could past experiences cause them to behave or act in such a manner?
Although every movement is unique, it is as though the same subconscious movements, and the body language they portray, are utilised by humans from different cultures all over the world.
My work is based on the learned habits of hand and foot gestures that are influenced by history. Some of my paintings are painted on primed handmade canvas made from old fabric, fabrics which also have a history. I’m interested in how we subconsciously communicate with each other through the habits and gestures we internalise.
