Nothing lasts forever, not nature or life. My studio work is based upon the inevitability of nature and the destruction of humans. It looks into Irish endangered flora and how it has been made increasingly critically endangered. It looks at how little time these species have left and I have explored this in my studio practice in a number of ways.
Celebrating the flower in a time piece, the work combines the two to express the importance of our loss and to create awareness about it. Using hand drawn etching, the flower’s individuality is portrayed in each piece. Both object and wearables, the objects are time capsules, and the wearable represents the flora: together they make a pair which expands out into more combined pieces. The colour of the stones is matched with the colour of the flower. Each piece is made from sustainable materials including recycled gold and silver.
