Let’s Talk Sex

Chloe Doyle

Ireland has been a sexually progressive country as demonstrated by the recent legalisation of same sex marriage and the repealing the Eighth Amendment. Even though these are big steps towards the right direction, many areas are still being neglected, most notably sex education.
The focus of this project was to explore how design could improve the current situation. This resulted in three specific outcomes comprising a comic zine that acknowledges and presents the current problem with the sex education curriculum; a campaign focusing on the need for change, the space to voice the opinions of those who agree about moving forward and the creation of an appropriate curriculum for our younger generation. And finally, a sexual health toolkit, created in an attempt to provide the first step for change in the right direction. This toolkit provides reliably sourced content for those in secondary level education who have often been denied an adequate sex education.
