The Shower

Bettina Saroyan

Bettina Saroyan reinterprets classical weaving and social media codes to apprehend our ever growing digital space. Through installations mimicking a playful world, she uses performance and low-end technologies to explore the transition to adulthood, daily digital-related gestures, and the slow-sliding to virtualisation. Saroyan’s textile sculptures are employed as props, sets and costumes to build up her own personal nest; the installations, carried out in osmosis with its immediate environment, are interactive with the help of QR codes that lead to several online platforms on which small films, live broadcasts and poems deploy.

Driven by the poetics of intimate space, the powerful suggestion of magic and pop cultural references, she recreates a cosy but threatening universe with the scent of déjà vu, a strangely familiar world which aims to interrogate our evolution, from its deepest roots to its promising and extreme technological prowess. A human story in every sense of the term and one enthusiastic QUESTion: What’s next?
