Grief as a Movement

'Grief as a Movement' is a performative artwork exploring movement and dance as a way of both archiving and relieving the pain lodged in our bodies from traumatic experiences.
Two sisters confront the loss of their mother, grieving together yet apart. The tragedy of loss is evident but above all, the piece emphasises the love and connection between siblings who find their way through a major trauma.
This performative piece is a response to the dance "Mother" (1921) choreographed by Isadora Duncan who was grieving the loss of her two children. The colour purple is a significant piece of the work. The dark rich purple represents the strength and transformation of the siblings while the lilac shade, a child-like colour, represents nostalgia.
